Creating Change: Shower of Stoles

The Shower of Stoles Project honors clergy who have worked for equality within their denominations and LGBT clergy who symbolize the fight for equality within a religious setting. Each stole tells a story.
Among the stoles displayed last weekend at the Creating Change Conference was that of the Rev. Steve Sprinkle of Brite Divinity School in Fort Worth. His stole tells the story of his dog, whose throat was slashed in his front yard in a hate crime aimed at intimidating the pastor. Instead, Sprinkle has gone on to publish about hate crimes against the LGBT community in his book “Unfinished Lives.”
Another stole is that of Frank Schaefer, the Methodist minister who performed a wedding for one of his gay sons and was defrocked, but later refrocked, for his action. Schaefer spoke last year at Cathedral of Hope and at Northaven United Methodist Church.
