In response to the inquiry I mentioned earlier, we just received a statement from Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn’s office. Here’s what Cornyn spokesman Kevin McLaughlin said:
“Sen. Cornyn believes that readiness must remain the highest priority of our military. Right now, the Pentagon is studying how repealing DADT would affect military readiness, and this careful review is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Sen. Cornyn believes Congress should not to act on a possible repeal until that review has been completed.”
We still haven’t received a response from Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison’s office.
And if the study comes bak that having gays serve openly in the military won’t negatively impact the military, John Cornyn will still vote against the repeal of DADT. I believe that it is against the laws of physics for neitherJohn Cornyn or Kay Bailey Hutchison to ever vote for a humanist position on anything. Thank heavens my Congresswoman is Eddie Bernice Johnson. At least I am served by one person in the Congress that I respect.
War, peace, and homeland security
In 2005, Cornyn voted against additional funding for up-armored vehicles to protect troops in Afghanistan & Iraq. Cornyn voted against removing troops from Iraq by July 2007, and he later voted against removing them by March 2008. He voted against implementing the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Report and restoring $565 million for states’ and ports’ first responders. He also voted against restricting businesses with ties to terrorism. He voted against preserving habeas corpus for Guantanamo detainees. Cornyn was one of only 22 Senators to vote against the Post-9/11 GI Bill that expands the educational benefits for soldiers who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.[26] He instead co-sponsored SB 2938, which gives benefits that are dependent on length of service

Perhaps Mr. Military Readiness will enlist to take the place of some of the willing mos that he doesn’t want serving, considering he never did before. Must have had other priorities along with his good buddy Deadeye Dick-head Cheney.
And don’t hold your breath waiting for a response from Kay. She’s still trying to figure out how she’s going to run again in 2012 despite promising to retire to run for Governor, which she didn’t do.
