In today’s cover story, Chaz Bono talks about his relationship with his family. In the story, I mentioned him as a little girl appearing on the Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour. Several friends I spoke to had no idea what I was talking about, so I looked for a few clips.

In the first from 1972, Sonny & Cher sing “I Got You Babe.” Like his mom, Chaz is dressed in a Bob Mackie gown. Chaz said even before he knew he was transgender and even before he thought he was lesbian, he rebelled against those gowns. In the second from 1975, he’s older and appears in pants on his mom’s show, Cher, that followed Sonny and Cher’s divorce.

Bono will be in Dallas this weekend to accept the Elizabeth Birch Award at Black Tie Dinner. And the clips are presented because Chaz was always my favorite part of his parents’ shows.
