Central Market plans to start renovating the former Albertsons supermarket space on McKinney Avenue in the Uptown section of Oak Lawn.
The company plans to begin the process of getting permits and zoning approval this fall. Zoning shouldn’t be a problem since the building use will be the same as it previously was. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026, assuming permits are issued.
Central Market is the upscale division of H-E-B, which has been rapidly growing in Dallas suburbs. The Central Market brand has been established in the city of Dallas for 20 years.
H-E-B acquired the property in 2016 with plans to put a mixed use high rise on the land, but redevelopment has been on hold and the property has remained vacant since then. H-E-B also owns a block on Lemmon Avenue where LaMadeleine used to stand. The buildings that block were leveled and no development for the property has been announced.
