To celebrate both GLBT History Month and Archives Month, T-shirts that have been worn by participants during many LGBT events in Dallas are on display at Resource Center Dallas this month. The display was created by Lacey Chrystal, who is the archives intern for the Phil Johnson Historic Archives and Research Library. She is a student attending the University of Texas at Arlington.
The Society of American Archivists celebrates American Archives Month each October to raise awareness about the value of archives and archivists.
October is also GLBT History Month, sponsored by Equality Forum highlighting the achievements of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender icons.
In addition to T-shirts, the archives include newspapers, magazines, rare and signed copies of books, personal items from some North Texas LGBT pioneers, official records from historic court cases, Gay Games medals and programs, CHEER Dallas uniforms, photographs, a piece of the flag that was held during the Stonewall 25th Anniversary march and pamphlets from various GLBT organizations.
Resource Center Dallas is located at 2701 Reagan St.
