RenaissanceHigh water and a garage collapse prompted police to close Cedar Springs Road at Turtle Creek Boulevard.
Police report they are waiting for structural engineers to inspect the collapsed parking garage at Renaissance Towers. The entrance to the towers on Cedar Springs Road is blocked off.
The garage collapsed last night at about 5 p.m. Several residents report they missed being trapped in the debris by minutes, but no one was injured.
There’s no count yet of how many cars were destroyed.
Danny Sikora, owner of Thairrific who lives in the building, was out of the building at the time and was wondering where he and hundreds of neighbors whose cars were not in the garage would park in a neighborhood that already has a parking shortage.
Police ask people to stay away from the area not just because of the collapse, but because of the high water overflowing Turtle Creek. Dallas has already had 9 inches of rain even before most of Hurricane Patricia hits Texas. Corsicana, about 50 miles south of Dallas, has had 20 inches of rain in the last 24 hours.
