TITAS, the premiere presenter of dance companies in North Texas and part of the AT&T Performing Arts Center, announced its lineup for next season during tonight’s presentation of LA Dance Project. Executive director Charles Santos revealed the 10 companies, plus annual Command Performance Gala, will include five debuts and the returns of several popular staples. For the first time ever, most performances will take place at Moody Performance Hall.
The season kicks off with the local debut of Camille A. Brown & Dancers. The company, from the choreographer responsible for Broadway’s Once on This Island and Sunday’s TV production of Jesus Christ Superstar, combines hip hop, African, modern and ballet. Moody Performance Hall, Aug. 24–25.
Diavolo, one of the most popular and inventive dance companies, combines an architectural element to its performances. The company arrives just in time for Dallas Pride Week. Moody Performance Hall, Sept. 14–15.
Stephen Petronio Company makes its Dallas premiere for two shows in October. His work is often set to the music of contemporary composers, songwriters and artists like Rufus Wainwright, Laurie Anderson and even Cindy Sherman. Moody Performance Hall, Oct. 19–20.
Aspen Santa Fe Ballet returns for the first time since its 2016 appearance for a program that will include an evening with pianist Joyce Yang. Moody Performance Hall, Oct. 26–27.
Complexions Contemporary Ballet. The diverse, gender-bending company returns, including a tribute to David Bowie. Moody Performance Hall, Nov. 9–10.
The lineup continues in 2019 with the debut of Dorrance Dance, whose leader, Michelle Dorrance, is a MacArthur Foundation “Genius” Fellow. Winspear Opera House, Feb. 1, 2019.
China’s Beijing Dance Theater follows soon after, with its Dallas debut. The company is presented in concert with the Crow Collection of Asian Art. Winspear Opera House, Feb. 8.
Kyle Abraham/Abraham.In.Motion returns for the first time since 2015 for two nights. Moody Performance Hall, March 1–2.
Ezralow Dance, pictured, then makes its Dallas debut. The company is known for its humor and physicality. Moody Performance Hall, March 29–30.
The subscription season ends with one of the most enduring companies TITAS imports: The endlessly creative Pilobolus. Moody Performance Hall, April 5–6.
The Command Performance fundraiser will feature many special performances. It takes place at the Winspear Opera House on June 1.
