BREAKING: Greg Patterson to step down as managing director of WTT

Greg Patterson, who was appointed to the position of managing director of WaterTower Theater last year and led the search that ultimately resulted in Joanie Schultz being named the company’s new artistic director, is stepping down at the end of the month, the theater company announced today.

“When WTT was embarking on the search for a new artistic director, I committed myself to ensuring the transition from Terry Martin to Joanie Schultz would be as smooth and easy as possible, and to play a role in setting the company on the right path going forward. I always knew that after that transition was completed, it would be time for me to look for new and exciting life adventures, and that time is now,” Patterson said in a statement. His contract expires on Sept. 30, and that will mark his departure.

“I am eternally grateful for his partnership and navigation in my first months here,” Schultz said.

Patterson arrived in North Texas more than a decade ago, and was also in the leadership at the Dallas Theater Center for a while. He has been with WTT for nearly 10 years.
Patterson’s departure is the latest in a number of high profile theater shake-ups in recent years, including the passings of Stage West’s Jerry Russell, Circle Theatre’s Rose Pearson and Theatre 3’s Jac Alder and Terry Dobson; the resignation of WTT’s Terry Martin; the ouster of Dallas Summer Musicals’ Michael Jenkins; and the departure of DTC’s Heather Kitchen.
