Turtle Creek Chorale, AIDS Services of Rural Texas only two organizations on 2008 list that weren’t recipients in 2007

The Turtle Creek Chorale and AIDS Services of Rural Texas will be among 19 beneficiaries for Dallas’ 2008 Black Tie Dinner, the event’s board of directors announced this week.
The 27th annual edition of Black Tie, the largest LGBT fundraiser of its kind in the nation, is set for Nov. 22 at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel, formerly the Adam’s Mark. Last year, Black Tie raised $1.27 million, bringing the total since 1982 to more than $11.75 million.
The Turtle Creek Chorale and AIDS Services of Rural Texas will be the only two beneficiaries this year that didn’t receive money in 2007. They replace OUT Takes Dallas and PFLAG/Dallas on the beneficiary list. Beneficiaries are selected by the board of directors through a detailed application process.
"Beneficiary selection is the pivotal point in our yearlong efforts," said Randy Ray, senior co-chair for the 2008 Black Tie Dinner, in a press release. "Through the combined support of our sponsors, volunteers, donors and dinner guests and by partnering with these beneficiaries, we are able to amplify the commitment these organizations provide to the North Texas GLBT community. The profound value each of these organizations deliver is a story in and of itself."
Roughly half the money raised from Black Tie goes to the national Human Rights Campaign Foundation, with the remainder divided between local beneficiaries.
"The relentless efforts of these nonprofit organizations result in enriched lives throughout the community," said 2008 Black Tie Co-Chair Laurie Foley. "With the selection process behind us, the board now digs in as we work toward the culmination of our efforts, the fundraising gala in November. The rich multitude of stories that come together at the Black
Tie Dinner truly make this a premier partnership celebration of empowerment, education and entertainment for our community."
In addition to TCC and ASRT, the local beneficiaries this year will be AIDS Arms, AIDS Interfaith Network, AIDS Outreach Center, AIDS Services of Dallas, AIDS Services of North Texas, Celebration Community Church, Congregation Beth El Binah, Equality Texas Foundation, Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, Legacy Counseling Center, Legal Hospice of Texas, Northhaven United Methodist Church, the Resource Center of Dallas, White Rock Friends, The Women’s Chorus of Dallas and Youth First Texas.
