Texas-OU weekend extends well beyond the Cotton Bowl
On the surface, the Texas-OU game is a netral-stomping-ground rivalry of two powerhouse football neighbors. In reality, it’s a Texas tradition whose effect is felt far beyond the gridiron. The game may be on Saturday afternoon, but after the final field goal, the real celebrating just gets going, with tons of fans, students and alums flocking into gayborhood for a night of whooping it up, college style. Be forewarned.

Rufus Wainwright croons at Meyerson
From his self-titled debut album of doleful edge-of-pop tunes to his Hollywood Bowl tribute concert to Judy Garland, Rufus Wainwright has astonished audiences and critics with his quirky sensibilities and luscious, flamboyant way with any song. He brings some of that artistry back to Dallas this weekend with Live at the Meyerson, a concert of songs of his latest acclaimed album … but there will surely be some surprises thrown in as well. That’s how he rolls.

DMA opens new exhibit of Parisian poster art
The rise of entertainment meant the rise of advertising, and nowhere was that more exploited than in Paris in the late 1800s. And boy did the artists of the day — famously Toulouse-Lautrec, but also Jules Cheret, the father of the poster — take advantage of that. The Dallas Museum of Art’s new exhibit of Parisian poster art includes original lithographs (and some watercolors) from le belle epoque in a rare display of familiar images … only these are the originals.
