Bruce Wood Dance closes 2017 with Rise
Bruce Wood has been gone for more than three years, but the company he founded — and the dances he created — live on. Bruce Wood Dance closes out its seventh season with three pieces: Restagings of Wood’s The Only Way Through Is Through and the Dallas premiere of the rarely-seen Lay Your Burdens Down, and the world premiere of Wood protege Joy Bollinger’s Hillside. The program is called Rise. (Dallas Voice’s Arnold Wayne Jones will host a post-performance talk-back each night.)

Lyric Stage goes Downtown with ‘Hunchback’
Irving-based Lyric Stage has made some changes for its 25th season. Founder Steven Jones hired Shane Peterman as a producer, and performances have moved from the ’burbs to Downtown Dallas’ Majestic Theater. That’s a grand palace fitting the new production, a stage version of the Disney animated hit The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Andrew Keller plays Quasimodo with Catherine Carpenter Cox as Esmerelda. And another change this season? Fewer performances, so get crackin’!

Bah! Humbug! Ebenezer is back at DTC
Dallas Theater Center has staged its holiday show A Christmas Carol for decades, and even though the script has stayed mostly the same for a decade, a rotating cast and director keep it fresh. This year, Lee Trull (who is leaving DTC next year) directs Brad Leland — so memorable as the grasping car dealer and football booster Buddy Garrity on Friday Night Lights — as Scrooge in Kevin Moriarty’s adaptation. Jeremy Dumont does the choreography.
