Lucky Plush makes Dallas debut with quirky superhero dance show

Imagine you used to be a superhero, and now you’re just a superzero. What to do? Well, how about a nonprofit startup for other has-been heroes? Maybe a think tank? That’s the premise of Lucky Plush Productions’ quirky, colorful dance performance Trip the Light Fantastic. The show — and the company — make their Dallas debut for two performances, courtesy TITAS.

A Super Dame Good Party raises a glass to women

We are living in an era of awareness when it comes to women in the workforce, but Les Dames d’Escoffier has been championing that issue for years. On Sunday, the group is back with its annual culinary fundraiser where visitors can wine, dine and bid on auction items to support scholarships for women to pursue careers in food, wine and hospitality. Among the 20 chefs participating with bites to taste are Sharon Hage, Jennifer Uygur (Lucia) and for Top Chef contestant Tiffany Derry, pictured.

Detour performing arts fest continues at WaterTower

Last week, we wrote about Dark Circles Contemporary Dance’s new show debuting at Detour, WaterTower Theatre’s new festival of original performance art. (It replaces the now-defunct Out of the Loop Fringe Festival.) Well, in addition to DCCD, which you can should see this weekend, check out gay performance artist Brigham Moseley’s latest solo show of movies that show be musicals. Up this time? My Best Friend’s Wedding. It plays Saturday, but there are shows all weekend at the festival work exploring. (Moseley’s show moves on Monday to Wild Detectives in Bishop Arts!)
