Stage West kickstarts new year with ‘Ada’
Technology and friendship meet in Ada and the Engine, Stage West’s first production of 2020. Set during the British Industrial Revolution, young mathematician Ada, daughter of flamboyant figure Lord Byron, befriends an older man dedicated to technological innovation. While her mother hopes to remarry, Ada explores her analytical curiosities as she helps build the world’s first mechanical computer with her likeminded friend.

Drag bingo for a benefit back in 2020
After its usual December skip, Resource Center’s Gaybingo returns for the first night of the year. For those looking to do something new in 2020, the center hosts this drag-themed bingo night monthly, with the Roaring 20s as January’s theme. Flappers and crooners hope to get lucky during this night benefiting the center’s programming, so bob up your hair, pick up a Tommy Gun and get ready to do the Charleston for this unique take on everyone’s favorite shout-it-out-loud game.

Cowtown theater show celebrates life of black playwright
Fort Worth’s Jubilee Theatre launches its first 2020 show with Lorraine Hansberry’s To Be Young, Gifted and Black. Jubilee’s productions mostly highlight African American experiences, with Hansberry’s play detailing events based on her life as a black lesbian playwright. And although A Raisin in the Sun is considered her best-known work, To Be Young similarly examines deep racial disparities and even inspired singer Nina Simone’s song titled the same.
