China’s Beijing Dance Theater combines movement with story in an innovative ‘Hamlet’

How pervasive is the impact of Shakespeare’s play Hamlet? Well, how about this: Even a dance troupe in China has found a way to adapt it to their culture and medium. Beijing Dance Theater unites story and movement in the dance drama of Hamlet, set in a non-specific time and place in a struggle of good versus evil, all set to choreographer Wang Yuanyuan’s dancing and the designs of Tan Shaoyuan and Hanjiang. The company makes its Dallas debut with this piece.

DEETS:
Winspear Opera House,
2403 Flora St. 8 p.m.
