Miller receives praise for his mediation skills

The Dallas Tavern Guild’s members have elected Gary Miller, co-owner of the Round-Up Saloon, to be the president of the organization of gay bar owners and managers.
Miller said he is looking forward to leading the group that produces the annual Alan Ross Texas Freedom Parade in September. The parade benefits local GLBT community groups.
“It’s a great opportunity for me to help the organization find new sponsors for our events,” Miller said. “I enjoy working with the community.”
Miller said Dallas is one of the few U.S. cities where gay bars have organized for their communities’ benefit.
It serves as a model for other cities, and gay bars in Philadelphia recently organized in similar fashion.
“They were very impressed by our group,” Miller said.
Miller, who has operated the Round-Up Saloon for 21 years, said his goal as president is to continue the group’s long history of success. The group’s promotion of press tours for the last two years has produced several travel stories in national GLBT publications touting Dallas a destination for gay travelers.
Michael Doughman, executive director of the Tavern Guild, said he believes Miller’s mediation skills will help him guide the group to greater success. “He is a voice of reason when we have differing opinions,” Doughman said. “We’re very pleased he will be our new president.
Miller replaces Kathy Jack, who resigned as president in May after retiring from the nightclub industry.
