Our own David Taffet has been following this story, and I’m quite sure he’ll have more to say about it here tomorrow. But for now I wanted to note that the Baptist General Convention of Texas is telling Royal Lane Baptist Church of Dallas that it must condemn gays to hell if it wants to remain a member of the convention.
Royal Lane Baptist recently changed its Web site to reflect its longstanding practice of welcoming gays and lesbians, as detailed in this story from The Dallas Morning News. In response, the BGCT announced today that it will place any funds received from the church in escrow, and asked the church to remove references to the convention from its publications.
“It is my prayer that Royal Lane Baptist Church will take the appropriate action to return to these Texas Baptist values and restore its fellowship with the BGCT,” Randel Everett, executive director of the BGCT, said in a statement.
Mr. Everett, it’s my prayer that you’ll soon realize your only “Texas Baptist values” are bigotry and hatred. Until then, it’s my prayer that the folks at Royal Lane will tell you to go f*** yourself. Amen.
Amen brother John!
xtian values: bigotry, hatred, hypocrisy.
What are the numbers? How much does this church get from the BGCT? We should be matching this as a community. I think I feel the urge to go to church and give an offering. Almost forgot, KUDOS ROYAL LANE!!!
Mr. Everett,
Royal Lane Baptist Church already did the
right thing. They decided to truly follow Jesus’
example, and include those whom the Pharisees
of our time has cast out.
To Royal Lane, well done good and faithful
servants.
Servant in Christ,

Tisha, Royal Lane Baptist Church doesn’t get any money from BGCT, Royal Lane BC gives moeny to the BGCT. If I were a Royal Lane member, I’d be happy not to have my money going to a bunch of homophobes like the BGCT. Still though, that ought to be RLBC’s choice, not BGCT’s.
Well I would be very upset as you all are too… If this were true that is. The BGCT is only saying that Homosexuals cannot have leadership position in a church. Anyone who has read Romans 1:27 knows that Homosexuality is not what God made is for, therefore I am glad that a Baptist organization is saying they believe the bible. Of course gays are welcome in church! Along with the rest of us sinners in the pews, but they should not be in leadership positions if they deny the truth in the bible that being gay is sinful. In the “Baptist Faith and Message” it is very clear that Baptist believe the only final authority is God, thus the scripture is being upheld by saying homosexuality is a sin. If you deny bible truths, you deny the bible, and if you deny the bible then you deny God and Jesus Christ. Thank God for the BGCT and their reliance upon God’s Word for clarity in this cultural issue.
