Writer Jennifer Finney Boylan will deliver the keynote address at the annual Houston Transgender Unity Banquet on Saturday, April 26, at the Sheraton Houston Brookhollow hotel, 3000 North Loop West in Houston.
The fundraising event will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 1 a.m., and is "probably the largest single-night trans event in the nation," organizers said.
Boylan’s 2003 memoir, "She’s Not There: A Life in Two Genders," was one of the first best-sellers by a transgender author. Her latest book, "I’m Looking Through You," was released in January to critical praise.
Boylan is a professor of creative writing and American literature at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. Her first book, a collection of stories called "Remind Me to Murder You Later," was published in 1988, and she is also the author of "The Planets, The Constellations"and "Getting In." She has appeared three times as a guest on the "Oprah Winfrey Show" and has also appeared on "Larry King Live," "Today" and "48 Hours," along with playing herself on the ABC daytime serial "All My Children."
Her nonfiction has appeared on the op/ed pages of the New York Times and in GQ, Allure, and Glamour. She is a regular contributor to Conde Nast Traveler.
Tickets to the Unity Banquet are $50 in advance, available throught Ticketweb via the Unity Committee Web site, www.htuc.org, and $60 at the door.

Proceeds from ticket sales support the Peggy Rudd Transgender Scholarship Fund, which awards scholarships to trans-identified students pursuing higher education.
Proceeds from a silent auction will support other programs of the Unity Committee, which include the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance.
