Gay filmmaker Israel Luna — in New York this week to premiere his latest movie at the TriBeCa Film Festival — has posted a video blog on his Facebook page about his recent decision about changes in marketing materials for the film.
Luna explains why has has decided not to change the name of “Ticked-Off Trannies With Knives,” which has drawn fire from many trans activists, but to “blur out” some of the letters in the word “Trannies” in some marketing materials for the movie.
Here’s Israel to explain:
That dude is so full of shit.
You can only hope to please some people with the creative material you produce. You will always piss off others. But I commend you for your sensitivity to your critics and their concerns and for attempting to address those concerns as best you can.
What a wimp-ass solution! The word is offensive! Delete it! Blurring out a few letters does nothing and will satisfy no one.
You cannot please everyone. I think he should have left the title alone no explainations, it is what it is.
Just another Fa**ot with a camera. Oh wait, does he find that offensive?
Listen up everybody! Oh, and lighten up, too! If this were a documentary film exploring the world and challenges of transsexual America striving for their full rights and respect, I’d be more inclined to offer my comments of agreement or disagreement with how the filmmaker presented such a subject on screen. But, it’s not a documentary. It’s not history or reality. Please, everyone just get a grip. Relax and enjoy a filmmaker taking his stab at spoofing the slasher/exploitation movies of the ’70’s and who respects all the letters in GLBT, or should I say LGBT, incase the L’s want to pick a fight. I’ve stood with the T’s in their just fights for equality and respect and always will. I was even life partnered to a B for 20 years. I’m also a big fan and friend of a talented writer and filmmaker, a huge G for sure, who would never create art, and that is what this is, that would harm any part of our Gay population. Israel, Good luck at Tribeca! Oh, and please come back on my show when you get back.
