This year’s Oscar winner for best foreign language film was a Chilean drama about a woman rejected by her late lover’s family when he dies suddenly. It could sound like a Lifetime movie, but A Fantastic Woman is something more. The widow in question is a trans woman (played with remarkable dignity by trans actor Daniela Vega), and it explores the continued bigotry faced by the LGBT community… especially the T. Director Sebastian Lelio uses visuals as much as dialogue to tell this important story, which is available on Blu Ray starting this week.
