Lambda Legal and its law firm partners presented arguments at a bench trial in American Academy for HIV Medicine, et al. v. HRSA, et al., its lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s restrictions that exclude transgender people living with HIV from full access to care through the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program.
The Ryan White Program was built to provide comprehensive integrated care for low-income people living with HIV, a population that includes a significant number of transgender people. Under the administration’s new restrictions, Ryan White-funded medical providers cannot acknowledge or respect the identities of their transgender patients and cannot use program funds to treat gender dysphoria through gender-affirming hormones. This leaves transgender patients cut off from a program that was built for them by Congress.
A ruling will be handed down at a later date.
