Israel Luna has never been one to shy away from controversy, and he’s not about to start now. His latest film — which premieres Friday, July 10, at 7:30 p.m. on the Dallas Voice YouTube channel — makes that perfectly clear.
And it all starts with the April 17 raid by Dallas police on a private party being held at Luna’s Spayse Studios.
Inspired by the real events of that afternoon, The Raid: Part One is a satirical short film that turns this one filmmaker’s experience with a police raid into an outrageous action-comedy parody. Blending over-the-top humor, clever spoofs of classic action movies and tongue-in-cheek performances, the film explores the confusion, misconceptions and larger-than-life moments surrounding the incident from the filmmaker’s perspective.
Along the way, viewers are treated to surprising and informative insights into what law enforcement officers and private citizens can — and cannot — legally do during police encounters, all presented in an entertaining and accessible way.
