A new monthly drag brunch is launching in the Southside/Cedars neighborhood at Canvas Hotel Dallas. The goal of this series though, is to redefine drag brunch. Promoters Crystal Queer Riot is introducing The Gag of the Gig this month at the downtown hotel. Queens host the event, but the immersive experience will shift the spotlight from stage to audience.

At each seating, one guest is selected to become “the gag.” Chosen live during brunch, they are taken backstage and transformed by the show’s “Gag Squad” through a full drag makeover—hair, makeup, styling, and performance coaching included.
While the transformation unfolds, the audience is not left on the sidelines.
Guests are actively pulled into the experience, guided and energized to become part of the final spectacle. By the time “the gag” returns to the stage, the room has transformed into a fully engaged, high-energy crowd invested in the performance. The result is a participatory drag experience that blends performance, transformation and community.
The brunch will be hosted by Climaxx and Stell Love D’Angelo with special guests.
“The Gag of the Gig leans into unpredictability, spectacle, and the core spirit of drag—inviting everyday people to step into the fantasy,” Crystal Queer Riot mentioned in its Monday press release.
