With severe winter weather due to move into the DFW Metroplex today (Friday, Jan. 23), Dallas Morning News’ Maria Ramos Pacheco has compiled a list of warming shelters in North Texas. Here’s a quick recap of where to go to get out of the cold, but be sure to read Pacheco’s article for more vital safety info.

• City of Dallas’ primary temporary overnight shelter is set to open at 4 p.m. today in the Automobile Building in Fair Park (3809 Grand Ave.). Homelessness service providers Austin Street Center and OurCalling will be operating the center in partnership with the city, and OurCalling CEO and Pastor Wayne Walker said they will be providing warm meals, snacks, blankets and jackets for those at the shelter.

This shelter can accommodate about 1,300, and it will stay open until nighttime temps stay consistently above freezing. The city has said it will open additional shelter spaces if the hit capacity at the Automobile Building. OurCalling.org

• The Bridge homeless shelter in downtown Dallas has space for overnight shelter and overflow spots to accommodate about 400. When they hit capacity, they will coordinate transportation to other shelters for those in need. The Bridge, 1818 Corsicana St., operates from 6 a.m.-5 p.m., providing access to indoor shelter, hot meals and support services. BridgeHRC.org

• The Salvation Army of North Texas is opening overnight shelters, with intake starting at various times today, at Carr P. Collins Social Service Center, 5302 Harry Hines Blvd.; Garland Corps Community Center, 451 W. Avenue D; Arlington Corps Community Center, 712 W. Abram St.; Mabee Social Service Center, 1855 E, Lancaster Ave.; and McKinney Corps Community Center, 600 Wilson Creek Parkway. Volunteers are welcome. SalvationArmyNTx.org

• The McKinney Emergency Overnight Warming Station at First McKinney Baptist Church, 1615 W. Louisiana St., will be open from 7 p.m.-8 a.m. through Sunday. FirstMcKinney.com

• Plano Overnight Warming Station at the East Plano Islamic Center, 4700 14th St., will be open through Monday, with transportation provided from the Parker Road DART station. PlanoWS.org.

• Frederick Herring Parks and Rec Center, 191 Civic Circle in Denton, open through noon Monday.

• Salvation Army Denton, 1508 E. McKinney St., open 7 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday through Sunday.

• Denton Community Shelter, operated by Our Daily Bread, 909 N. Loop 288, open 8 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Monday through Sunday.

• Civic Center, 321 E. McKinney St. in Denton, open 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

• MLK Jr. Rec Center, 1300 Wilson Street in Denton, open from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.

• North Lakes Rec Center, 2001 Windsor Drive in Denton, open 5 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.

• Central Fire Station, 332 E. Hickory St. in Denton, open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

• In Richardson, 24-hour warming centers will open at 5 a.m. today to provide a place for those who lose power and/or need temporary shelter in the lobbies at the Richardson Police Department Administration Building, 200 N. Greenville Ave.; the Richardson Fire Department Station 3, 500 W. Lookout Drive; and Richardson Fire Department Station 6, 3591 Park Vista Road.

• The city of DeSoto will offer a 24-hour warming center at the DeSoto Recreation Center, 211 E. Pleasant Run Road from 6 a.m. Saturday through 10 p.m. Monday. No food or bedding will be provided.
