The uproar in the community over Greg Abbott’s demand that any non-standard crosswalks anywhere in Texas — read that as the rainbow crosswalks on Cedar Springs Road in the heart of the Dallas Gayborhood — or risk losing millions in federal funds continues to grow. And several local organizations have issued statements addressing the situation.
GLAAD, Texas Latino Pride, Pride in Dallas, Dallas Social Queer Organization, ReVoyce and Dallas Pride issued the following joint statement (Thanks for Jacob Reyes with GLAAD and Texas Latino Pride for passing this along):
“Dallas’ Rainbow Crosswalks, located at the heart of our Cedar Springs neighborhood, are a symbol of unity and hope and serve as a powerful display of the LGBTQ community’s resiliency and influence in North Texas. This privately funded project, thanks to efforts from the North Texas LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce, operates for the community and by the community.
Past the crosswalks’ intersections are small businesses, owned and operated by the LGBTQ community and our allies. On the streets of Oak Lawn and Cedar Springs, we invest in our local economy; we organize and practice our First Amendment rights, and we love openly.
Texas faces many challenges, especially when it comes to infrastructure. Instead of prioritizing what color the roads are, we call on state officials in Texas to focus on what really matters: ensuring our roads are safe to drive on, that our small businesses have the means to continue to operate and that the rights of LGBTQ Texans are protected.”
Texas Latino Pride is a nonprofit organization founded in 2014 that celebrates the cultural heritage, diversity, and achievements of the Latino and LGBTQ communities in Texas.
Pride in Dallas is a nonprofit organization dedicated to celebrating, empowering and uniting the LGBTQ+ community in Dallas through inclusive events, education and advocacy and to bring the annual Parade on Cedar Springs to the historic Oak Lawn neighborhood each September.
Dallas Social Queer Organization’s focus is uniting, empowering and strengthening queer lives in Dallas through shared learning, support and community building.
ReVoyce is a media company dedicated to reintroducing, reinventing and reaffirming the visibility of underserved and marginalized communities. It was founded and led by award-winning producer and LGBTQ+ advocate Ressie Gamble, and used podcasts, documentaries, scripted and unscripted productions to showcase how individuals live, learn and grow from their experiences, with LGBTQ+ people of color at the heart of every story.
Dallas Pride’s mission is to strengthen support and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community by prioritizing inclusiveness to create a feeling of belonging for everyone.
GLAAD is an LGBTQ+ media association that tackles tough issues to shape the narrative and provoke dialogue that leads to cultural change.

LGBTQ is a Cult compared to just GLAD when I went to college with my gay friends. One’s sexual preference is no one’s business and should not be forced on people and in their faces with twisted sick gender ideology to brainwash people AND CHILDREN!
Amen!
If you believe that….why are you reading The Dallas Voice?
You can’t even structure basic English, so it’s obvious that you are commenting from some third world country and you are a wanna-be ESL student, but here some facts for your digestion:
The ‘GLAD’ version you remember was about fighting to be seen as human when people wanted to shove us in the closet.
The ‘LGBTQ’ version you call a cult is just the result of that fight—we’re no longer asking for permission to exist quietly.
We’re simply existing.
The only thing being ‘forced’ is the concept of basic respect, which can feel like a lot if you’re not used to giving it.
Get out of here with that hetero stuff!!! Quit pushing your lifestyle on OUR faces and indoctrinating CHILDREN with YOUR sexual preferences!!! 💅
LGB left the T Q on their own, even they know on 2 genders exist.
So, … what is the plan?
You need people to protest? I’m there.
Hell you need someone to lie on to prevent its destruction. I’ll join you.
I’m a straight ally, but I believe that this is a time to stand up to moral retrenchment.
Even though our politicians are crooked as hell, even though they use the crony system at will, and even though they kiss Trump’s ass I am still gonna write the insane, whose idea brought forth this prejudice.
Y’all naysayers, especially Mike, are crazy. Nobody is forcing their morality on you any more than you are forcing it on them. And in fact, what you are saying is that you want people to hide who they are if and when you don’t like who they are. Why is it so difficult for people to live and let live and just mind their own business? Why is it so difficult for people to respect thy neighbor– love would be great –but really just treat everyone with respect. You don’t have to go beneath the surface. Just recognize people as human beings, be respectful, and go on about your day/life! Geez. I just don’t get it. It isn’t that hard.
