Theatre Three receives matching challenge toward its dire need for funds

A lot can happen in a week.
Last Tuesday, Theatre Three posted an urgent appeal to raise $200,000 by the end of May to keep its doors open. The theater community and audiences rallied spreading the news across social media. The 64 year-old theater has received some good news but let’s not jinx anything.
Here’s all what’s happened since its announcement.
Two days after T3’s posting, the company received news of a $100,000 matching grant by a donor.
From Facebook (May 15):
As we face the financial crisis at this beloved institution, a generous donor has come forward and offered to DOUBLE THE IMPACT you can make when you donate to T3. Any donations made in the next two weeks will be MATCHED (up to $100,000.)
If you have already given, THANK YOU. Your impact will be doubled by this match!!! If you haven’t yet, PLEASE DO IT TODAY! We still have a ways to go!
This amazing commitment of support means we have even more hope that we will get past this current moment and continue to be a vital part of North Texas theater!!!
On May 16, local music director Vonda K. Bowling posted a benefit show for T3 scheduled for next month.
Together for T3: A Benefit Concert to Support the Legacy and Future of Theatre Three will be held on June 16 at the theater. The event is hosted by Bowling alongside actor Max J. Swarner and T3 Associate Artistic Director Christie Vela. The event is an evening of music and storytelling to honor T3’s legacy. Tickets for the event can be purchased here.
That same day, Vela and T3 Artistic Director Jeffrey Schmidt released a video explaining the entire situation of how the company found itself in its current situation. They were forthcoming and transparent about post-pandemic catch-up, the lack of ticket sales and building maintenance costs.
“It’s a different world now and we’re trying to catch up. It’s also been like a slow motion snowball effect. The pandemic changed everything for us,” Vela stated in the video.

As if this wasn’t enough to deal with, T3 just wrapped up The Mystery of Irma Vep in its Theatre Too space last weekend and is in rehearsals for its upcoming June show, Xanadu. But, the company did post a donation update on Wednesday that looked quite optimistic (you might have to click on it for optimal effect). As of Wednesday, T3 has raised $84,000 toward $100,000 that will be matched for the company’s ultimate goal.
The company is looking to raise the remainder of $200,000 by the end of the month. To donate, visit Theatre3Dallas.com.
