April is Fair Housing Month, commemorating the 1968 Fair Housing Act which prohibits housing discrimination, and to mark the observance, the city of Dallas’ Office of Equity and Inclusion — Fair Housing Division is hosting a series of informational events intended to educate residents about their rights, available services and how to report housing discrimination.
Throughout April, the Fair Housing Division will host Fair Housing Roadshow events every Thursday and the last Monday of the month in various Dallas districts. Fair Housing staff will be onsite to provide information and will be available to receive qualifying, fair housing complaints.
Mayor Pro Tem Tennell Atkins and Councilmembers Jamie Resendiz, Jesse Moreno and Gay Donnell Willis will attend these workshops to connect with residents, listen to concerns, and provide valuable resources.
The Fair Housing Road Show begins Thursday, April 10, with an event from 6-7 p.m. at the District 8 Resource Center/Highland Hills WIC office in District 8, then continues with events from 6-7 p.m. April 16 at Pleasant Grove Branch Library in District 5, from 6-7 p.m. April 24 at J. Erik Jonsson Central Library in District 2 and, finally, on Monday, April 28, from 6-7 p.m. at Vickery Meadow Youth Development Foundation Center in District 13.
