U.S. Rep. Keith Self chairs the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe and called on Rep. Sarah McBride to speak, saying: “I now recognize the representative from Delaware: Mr. McBride.”

McBride is a transgender woman representing the state of Delaware. Self is from McKinney.

Without missing a beat, McBride responded, “Thank you, Madame Chair.”

But Rep. Bill Keating, the ranking member of the sub-committee and a Democrat from Massachusetts, had had enough of the disrespect McBride has been facing. He demanded a proper introduction, but Self said, “I will. The representative from Delaware: Mr. McBride.”

After a few back and forths, the meeting was adjourned before McBride was able to speak. McBride said she was disappointed because she had questions on nuclear non-proliferation.

After the incident, McBride released another statement on how proud she was to represent the people of Delaware.
