4 of the companies based in Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex

Nine Texas-based companies, including four in the DFW Metroplex, appear on the 2008 list of Best Places to Work for GLBT Equality compiled by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.

A total of 195 companies nationwide, up from 138 last year, made the list released Jan. 8 by the HRC Foundation, the nation’s largest LGBT civil rights group. To make the list, companies had to score a perfect 100 on the foundation’s Corporate Equality Index, which measures policies and practices that promote equality in the workplace for LGBT employees.

“Each of these companies is working hard to transform their workplaces and make them safer for millions of employees around the country,” HRC President Joe Solmonese said in a press release. “We can now say that at least 10 million employees are protected on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity on the job.”

The Texas companies that appear on the list are J.C. Penney Company Inc. of Plano,

AMR Corp. (American Airlines) of Fort Worth, Dell Inc. of Round Rock, Clear Channel Communications Inc. of San Antonio, Brinker International Inc. of Dallas, Freescale Semiconductor Inc. of Austin, Waste Management Inc. of Houston, GameStop Corp. of Grapevine and AT&T Inc. of San Antonio.
