Trainer

PRACTICING WHAT HE PREACHES | Personal trainer John Gordon works out up to six days a week even when he’s not with clients. Yeah, he’s that guy. (Arnold Wayne Jones/Dallas Voice)

John Gordon’s philosophy to good health is fairly simple: Eat right and work out … and keep up both. He calls it “intelligent fitness,” but his clients would call it tough love.

“It depends on that moment, but yeah, they’d say that I’m tough — but realistic,” he admits.

Gordon’s no-nonsense approach has morphed clients from ages 19 to 73 into healthier, stronger bodies. But what singled him out was his effort to create a rapport with his clients. Once he’s earned their trust, the work begins both in and out of the gym. He’ll pack the weights on or push for that extra cardio mile, but he also instills a new way of thinking when it comes to eating and making smart choices. He determinedly walks the walk — just at a higher incline. Gordon is that trainer, “I’m at the gym five to six days a week.  A trainer should look like a trainer and inspire the client.”
In short, he’s the ideal guy to have around to get to a better you.

Dentisit

TOOTH OR CONSEQUENCES | Floss’ Clark Steffens makes getting an exam less of a chore, especially with its commitment to give back to the community through LifeWalk, DIFFA and other charities. (Arnold Wayne Jones/Dallas Voice)

Going to the dentist isn’t at the top of anyone’s list of favorite things — not even Oprah’s. But when it comes to getting those choppers all white and sparkly, patients of Dr. Clint Herzog simply can’t say enough great things about the experience at Floss. With upscale interiors that emulate a high-end spa more than a drill-and-fill house of horrors, it’s a pleasant journey from sign-in to final rinse. Floss offers a vast array of services that go way beyond simple cleaning and the occasional root canal. From Invisalign teeth alignment to veneers and professional breath control, if a treatment or product can improve your mouth, they can provide it. Plus, Floss is committed to giving back to the community through no fewer than a dozen non-profit organizations, including LifeWalk, DIFFA and Big Brothers/Big Sisters — all of which brings smiles to more than just their patients.
